Q&A: What are all the signs for diabetes and do you think I have it?

Question by Celine: What are all the signs for diabetes and do you think I have it?
Lately, I’ve been worrying that I have diabetes. First of all, I get thirsty a lot. Second, I tend to have to go to the bathroom a lot. And a lot of times, I have the urge to go, but when I sit down on the toilet, nothing happens. So is it possible that I have diabetes? And also, please list the other signs of diabetes. Thanks for all answers in advance. :)

Some diabetes symptoms include:

* Frequent urination
* Excessive thirst
* Extreme hunger
* Unusual weight loss
* Increased fatigue
* Irritability
* Blurry vision

Check with your doctor about doing a fasting blood glucose test and see if anyone else in your family has Diabetes, as Type 1 (insulin-dependent) is genetic while Type 2 is very preventable.

    Sounds to me that you may have a Urinary Tract Infection, or Bladder Infection, not diabetes. The signs for diabetes are:
    increased thirst
    increased hunger
    fatigue
    increased urination, especially at night
    weight loss
    blurred vision
    sores that do not heal
    If you are still worried about having diabetes, or if you have any of the other signs, you need to have your blood sugar level checked immediately. I think you should make an appointment with your doctor anyways, and let him know what’s going on with the thirst, and the not being able to urinate. Could be something serious, but easily fixable with some good antibiotics.

    Well the most common symptoms of diabetes include: extreme thirst (which causes frequent restroom breaks), extreme weight loss (I happened to lose 50lbs), and loss of energy. I would suggest that you go to your doctor to tell him of your concerns and perhaps ask for a glucose test. Generally, since you haven’t seemed to notice any significant weight loss or haven’t said any thing about fatigue, I wouldn’t assume diabetes (unless you have a family history of diabetes). I would guess that your problem could be more related to the electrolytes and minerals in your blood, so if i were you I’d ask to get that all checked out.

    severe thirst is one, the urge to urinate is another. skin rashes and yeast infections plus rapid weight loss can be present. Many symptoms can occur including hair lacking the same vigor as before. visit your doctor for a quick efficient test. It will help you know.

    There are a number of symptoms of diabetes, you mentioned two big ones, frequent urination and thirst, but other symptoms of diabetes include:

    - slow healing wounds
    - bladder infections
    - low energy
    - blurry vision
