Q&A: Self-Control “gene”…did the human being suddenly mutate?

Question by Mad Scientist…: Self-Control “gene”…did the human being suddenly mutate?
We blame snowstorms and rain for “accidents”, yet snowflakes and raindrops don’t throw people into ditches. Poor judgement is the cause of virtually any “accident”.

Now we are being lead to believe a certain “gene” is responsible for our behavior…we drink too much, we eat too much, etc.

Our mothers/fathers, grandfathers/grandmothers did not look like us…diabetes and obesity was the exception, and not the rule. Now we want pills to make it ALL go away. Impotent…it’s not your fault you smoke, eat junk, drink excessively…here, take this pill. Overweight….it’s not your fault you can’t control overeating…now go see the surgeon, and get on the operating table. The root cause here is we have become very unhappy in our quest for MORE material possesions, and keeping up with the jones.

So what did the previous generations have that we have(besides self-control)?

You thoughts?

Well, many people will tend to take the easy path if it is available to them. Our ancestors would probably have reacted in an overindulgent manner if that path had been available.

In earlier times, obesity wasn’t prevalent because an abundant food supply was not available to most. Our ancestors needed to spend much of their time acquiring an adequate food supply just to avoid starvation.

Of course, that is not the case now. For example, almost everyone in the Western world has access to an overabundance of food.

I think that the overindulgence gene has always been there. We can now take full advantage of it in many aspects of life.

And, self control and restraint is a higher level of cognition, of which many of us do not wish to acknowledge.

What previous generations had,was self respect, honor,a good work ethnic, and morals.^Today’s generation never really had to work for any ting much as parents work for them,we live in a push button society,No one walks anywhere unless you want to and people use food to indulge their hunger for all that is lacking in their lives.Morals are almost obsolete,as anything can NOW be rationed away as not being all that bad.So I would sum it all up to honor, you either have it inbred or you don’t.Used to be your word was the same as a contract but not anymore.
