OK, Now I Am Really Getting Scared…..?

Question by Bruja: OK, Now I Am Really Getting Scared…..?
For a while my dr’s had the wrong dates. They based this on an early ultrasound that they have never actually seen, only seen the tech’s notes (it was done in a diff state before I moved here). My new dr changed things to reflect the correct dates, but I have 6 different dr’s at this point. I’ve got pre-e & gest diabetes, and was having high BPs & facial swelling, so my dr asked me to come to the hospital. When I went in tonight, they were like Sorry, we know you are feeling awful, and things are getting worse, but you have to get through to week 36..I was like Hold on, I AM in week 36. They were like no, and in my chart the dates had been changed back to the wrong one, putting me only at 33 1/2 weeks.
The baby is already 7-8 lbs, I can hardly walk, my head hurts constantly from the elevated BP, my vision is blurred…every “sign” they have advised me to come in for, I have had, but then when I go no one cares? And now this date thing come back to haunt me…please see below
As to the date thing-They had me with impossible dates. The latest date I had sex prior to finding out I was pregnant was August 28th-They have me conceiving Sept. 11th. I had 6 positive HPTs on Sept. 13th. I am not some stupid kid who just doesn’t remember when she did what, I am almost 30 years old and was tracking this information VERY carefully. I realize everyone thinks they can swear by early ultrasound, but here’s the thing: The tech’s notes are all they have from the early ultrasound and the DOCTOR who actually saw me then did NOT agree with the tech, and left the dates as they were (with a due date that was 19 days earlier). I have argued, and am at my wit’s end.I feel like me and baby are being jeopardized because they don’t want to admit that I know my own dates?? I am so nauseous, headache constantly, high BP all the time now, severe back pain, seeing spots constantly, horribly swollen in face, neck, hands, feet, ankles, and calves..and really scared. What to do?
There is no one else I can see, other than a horrid midwife practice that badly botched a couple of deliveries of people I knew. The problem with the 6 doctor practice is that no one really wants to take responsibility for you as their patient, they all kind of pass things off on each other.
I am not stressing myself out excessively over this, this has been going on for a while. I’ve been told for 4-5 weeks now that they wanted to deliver me ASAP, because even they felt it was in my best interest…..Now they keep changing dates and blowing it off, despite the fact that things ARE getting worse. You would have to know this town and the doctors in it, but they are very careless a lot of the time-I have very valid reasons for my concern, these are not top notch medical professionals who you can rely on to do the right thing-Half the time I have to tell them what’s in my chart because they don’t even know what is going on.
As to the poster who stated the accuracy of the early ultrasound, re-read the information I posted here: First of all, the DOCTOR didn’t even agree with the tech who did that ultrasound (and sorry, I had more faith in the doctor than a tech who could barely speak English and looked to be about 20 yrs old). The doctor who saw me then agreed with the EARLIER dates, but all my new practice has in my file is the tech’s notes.
Secondly, how do people sit there and insist that such a date MUST be right just because of an ultrasound when I am telling you VERY PLAINLY the last time I had sex was two weeks earlier than these dates would have me conceiving?? Not to mention, confirmation of pregnancy via HPT TWO DAYS after I supposedly conceived? Impossible.
And to note, I have weekly ultrasounds, all my docs have up to date info of the size of baby (who measured over 36 weeks a week ago).
Sorry to keep adding details….My BP was 172/111 when I went in to the hospital this evening. It had been up in the 150′s-160′s all day prior to that.
I had a 24 hour urine a few weeks back that was 581, and have spilled protein from trace up to 2+ ever since at every visit.
And yes, urine output has slowed quite a bit from even a couple weeks ago, sorry I forgot to answer that!
All there are around here are small town hospitals..the one I am going to is actually the biggest in the area, and it is small. The closest major hospital is like, 6-7 hours away, as this town is roughly 4 hours off the interstate. There are three possible places to go to for a doctor, and sadly, mine is the best option of the three…the other two, one is a horrid midwife practice I already mentioned, the other I did try to go to, and left when, among several other disturbing things, the doctor I had there tried to tell me blood sugar in excess of 500 was normal for a pregnant woman. I’m telling you, these medical people in this area cannot be trusted to just automatically do the right thing by you, this is why I am so scared.
I am not even concerned with being delivered at this point as I am about the negative effects of the high blood pressure on the baby…I mean, surely to goodness they can put you on a blood pressure medication or something? If they want me to wait until I am 40 weeks along, hell, that is fine with me, but don’t just leave me with the constantly elevated BP the whole time, that cannot be good for me or my baby girl either one!

I think they all sound like idiots. I would go get a what 7th opinion and find out for sure how far along you. This is not fair to you.

OMG you poor thing to be honest I’m not really sure. But if it were me I demand a new ultrasound and tell the docs to get there head out of there a**. GOOD LUCK

I had pre eclampsia and they delivered my baby at 32 weeks…. if you were really bad off, they would do it for you too. You need to stop stressing yourself out and relax. Stay in bed with your feet up as much as possible. Make contact with just one doctor first thing in the morn and let him know your concerns. Most importantly STOP STRESSING!!!!! it is not good for you or your baby.

Is your urine output diminishing? How high is your blood pressure?

Unfortunately, the most accurate u/s is always the one taken at 8 weeks. There are certain processes occuring around then that cause the tech to ascertain the true gestation of your baby.

At this point, it looks like all the docs are using that first ultrasound…..it is very accurate.

I had preeclampsia at 36 weeks, and I held out to 38 weeks.
My feet blew up like balloons! I now have stretchmarks on my FEET! (maybe you will have them on your face…haha).

I too believed that I was given the wrong dates….that I had always been two weeks further along than they said. I just went with the flow.

Aren’t they going to keep you in the hospital? Normally if your preeclampsia is bad, you have to stay in the hospital.

    Do you have insurance?

Untreated pre-eclampsia can lead to some serious problems. If you are having high b/ps and alot of swelling, I would go in for another opinion. doesn’t matter how far along you are. You can lose your baby, or yourself. Not trying to scare you, but pre-e can cause kidney failure in you- and death in baby- and you. There are things they can do for those problems. You need a different ob doc if your kid is 7-8 pounds and they want you to wait another 6 weeks.

definitely go get ANOTHER opinion it sounds horrible to have to do but the doctors should not e so disorganized that’s ridiculous especially whe your having such severe medical problems!!

    Good luck and God bless

If I were you, I’d go to the ER to get checked out. See if they’ll do an ultrasound there so you’ll have an up-to-date one that they all can reflect upon. Don’t take no for an answer, get the help you need so you can feel better.

If you have high blood pressure and constant headaches, they need to check you. I truthfully go to the Emergncy room, and if you don’t like the one that your doctors go to, go to a different one. You need to be watched closely…33 or 36 weeks it doesnt matter if your sick and have possible pre-eclampsia it could kill you or the baby.

I would go to the nearest womens hospital, tell them your symptoms and the date of your last menstrual period. They will make a determination on what is going on at this time and if there are severe complications, you are more likely to get resolution there as they are geared to women’s problems. If you are stable, it is best to wait. Good luck.

Oh my. I completely understand why you’re so worried. You need to talk to someone who will listen to you. Sometimes it can be difficult to contradict a doctor or other specialist, but your situation sounds serious. Those are serious warning signs that something isn’t right and you need to be heard. I would keep persisting. Early ultrasounds are more accurate, but people make mistakes, and it sounds like perhaps the radiographer’s notes are wrong.

Please don’t let it go. It might help to have someone with you who can back you up. A support person is often a good idea in these kinds of situations. Write down your questions, dates, comments and symptoms (just like you have in your question) so everything’s clear in black and white (mostly so when you’re talking, you don’t forget anything)..

God bless you and your sweet baby!

pre-e is very serious, and even if you aren’t full term often they will deliver the baby because it risks your life, and the baby…… so if you are 36 weeks or even if you were 33 1/2 they should be concidering inducing you! Is there another hospital you can goto?

    go to the emergency room
